THE GREAT PRAYER EXPERIMENT

An amusing, if rather pathetic, case study in miracles is the Great Prayer Experiment: does praying for patients help them recover?

Prayers are commonly offered for sick people, both privately and in formal places of worship. Darwinas cousin Francis Galton was the first to analyse scientifically whether praying for people is efficacious. He noted that every Sunday, in churches throughout Britain, entire congregations prayed publicly for the health of the royal family. Shouldnat they, therefore, be unusually fit, compared with the rest of us, who are prayed for only our nearest and dearest? Galton looked into it, and found no statistical difference. His intention may, in any case, have been satirical, as also when he prayed over randomized plots of land to see if the plants would grow any faster (they didnat).

More recently, the physicist Russell Stannard (one of Britainas three well-known religious scientists, as we shall see) has thrown his weight behind an initiative, funded by - of course - the Templeton Foundation, to test experimentally the proposition that praying for sick patients improves their health.

Such experiments, if done properly, have to be DOUBLE BLIND and this standard was strictly observed. The patients were assigned, strictly at random, to an experimental group (received prayers) or a control group (received no prayers).

Neither the patients - nor their doctors or caregivers - nor the experimenters were allowed to know which patients were being prayed for and which patients were controls. Those who did the experimental praying had to know the names of the individuals for whom they were praying a otherwise, in what sense would they be praying for them rather than for somebody else? But care was taken to tell them only the first name and initial letter of the surname. Apparently that would be enough to enable God to pinpoint the right hospital bed.

The very idea of doing such experiments is open to a generous measure of ridicule, and the project duly received it.

Valiantly shouldering aside all mockery, the team of researchers soldiered on, spending $2.4 million of Templeton money under the leadership of Dr Herbert Benson, a cardiologist at the Mind/Body Medical Institute near Boston. Dr Benson was earlier quoted in a Templeton press release as believing that evidence for the efficacy of intercessory prayer in medicinal settings is mountinga. Reassuringly, then, the research was in good hands, unlikely to be spoiled by sceptical vibrations.

Dr Benson and his team monitored 1,802 patients at six Hospitals, all of whom received coronary bypass surgery.

The patients were divided into three groups. Group 1 received prayers and didnat know it. Group 2 (the control group) received no prayers and didnat know it. Group 3 received prayers and did know it.

The comparison between Groups 1 and 2 tests for the efficacy of intercessory prayer. Group 3 tests for possible psychosomatic effects of knowing that one is being prayed for.

Prayers were delivered by the congregations of three churches, one in Minnesota, one in Massachusetts and one in Missouri, all distant from the three hospitals. The praying individuals, as explained, were given only the first name and initial letter of the surname of each of the surname of each patient for whom they were to pray. It is good experimental practice to standardize as far as possible, and they were all, accordingly, told to include in their prayers the phrase a?for a successful surgery with a quick, healthy recovery and no complicationsa.

The results, reported in the American Heart Journal of April 2006, were clear-cut. There was NO DIFFERENCE between those patients who were prayed for and those who were not. What a surprise.

Who are Responsible for Backwardness of Tribal ?

India has been home to tribals since time immemorial, and they are naturally considered the original inhabitants of India. Their rich history and culture have provided tribes such as Santhal, Munda, Bhil, Meena, Ho Gond and others a distinct identity at the national and international level. The tribal areas of Rajasthan have been home to many tribes such as Bhil, Meena, Bhil-Meena, Damor and Garasia since ancient times. The tribes of Rajasthan have a history full of splendour and valor, and are thus famous for it. The tribal kings established their own kingdoms across the Rajputana. For instance, Dungaria Bhil had Dungarpur, Bansia (Vishna) Bhil had Banswara. Kotia Bhil had Kota, Jetasi Bhil had Abu as their kingdoms, which now constitute districts along these names in modern Rajasthan. Besides, Maharana Pratap, the great Rajputana warrior, had a Bhil warrior as his commander-in-chief, who is still revered by one and all.
However, the tribal people have been victim of social, economic and religious discrimination and exploitation notwithstanding their rich history. They have been deprived of education, have been socially looked down upon and rejected, have been made to serve as bonded labour: a fact that has been time and again accepted, officially and unofficially, by politicians, social workers and scholars alike. Jansatta, a Hindi daily, in a news report headlined, a?Kendra Anusuchit Jaati-Janjaati ke Liye Vishesh Tantra aur Kanoon Banane ke Paksh Meina? (Centre in Favour of Framing a Special System and Law for Scheduled Castes and Tribes), quoted Union Social Welfare and Empowerment Minister Meera Kumar as saying that more than 16 crore people in India still suffer from the scourge of untouchability. According to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, the scheduled castes and tribes are discriminated against even after six decades of Indiaas independence and affirmative action is needed to change this. In a similar vein, Union Law Minister Hansraj Bharadwaj has maintained that the victims of excesses are paid only lip service. The law minister further said that the discrimination against scheduled castes and tribes should be stemmed at the grassroots level and unless we as a nation change our thinking, these excesses will continue.
Usually, non-tribals are held responsible for the backwardness, excesses on and exploitation of tribals. There is some truth to this generalization. But then are the non-tribals only to be blamed for tribal backwardness? Actually, if anybody has to be blamed for tribal backwardness it has to be tribals only. The facts speak for themselves. Take for instance the tribal subplan area of Rajasthan. As the sarpanch, pradhan, district board chairman, all are in most of the cases tribals of this area, so are the MLA, MP and tribal minister who invariably belong to this area. This only shows that they are well represented in governing and legislative bodies, and with a population of about 35 lakh they are not few in numbers. Yet, the common tribal is still struggling to make both ends meet even after 59 years of Independence, and only the tribal politicians, leaders, officials and employees and the youth can be blamed for the backwardness of the tribal society as they together have failed to discharge their responsibility toward their own community. Here, we will explore all this one by one.

1Role of Tribal Politicians
As we all know, tribals face social, economic and religious exploitation and excesses which brings the role of tribal politicians into question because they have failed to tackle these problems by mobilizing the community into a movement. The main reason of this failure on their part is the lack of leadership among the tribal community. In addition, after Independence the community panchayats have been usurped by party politics, which has become a bane of the tribal society. The party politics has divided the tribal society into various party ideologies. As a result, most of the tribal leaders, instead of making the tribal development and upliftment their objective, only fulfill their political ambitions. Most of the tribal leaders work to mobilize crowds for their party rallies. They seldom work toward solving the problems of the community. Consequently, even after a period of 59 years, there has been a lack of programmes and schemes to put a planned and special area like the a?Adivasi Upyojana Kshetraa? (Tribal Subplan Area) on the path of development for the overall development of the tribal community. Of the 150 most backward districts of the country covered under the Food For Work Programme, three districts of Udaipur, Dungarpur and Banswara fall in Rajasthan where the government has to undertake famine relief every year. This only shows that this area has remained still backward because of which many villages lack even basic amenities like drinking water and electricity, there is a lack of irrigation facilities, transport and communication facilities. The tribals of these areas may be found wandering in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi to make ends meet. Most of the tribals are unable to benefit from government and non-government run employment schemes for the lack of information and rampant corruption.
When some tribal politicians, rising above party politics, dare raise the issues concerning the development of tribals, they are accused of promoting casteism, and their party concerned retaliates by downsizing their political stature and putting checks on them. The threat of denial of tickets for the next elections is the most potent one that makes the tribal leaders helpless. Furthermore, there is no dearth of talented people among tribals, but they are being divided gradually along party lines and social groupings, and they are engaged in pulling down each other and fulfilling their political ambitions. This has only harmed the interests of the tribal society. It has been observed that the tribal leaders from southern Rajasthan have little grip over in the government administration. Lack of education, no influential positions in political parties, lack of awareness about constitutional provisions and rights, lack of information on development programmes and procedures of government departments are some of the reasons for this. The tribal leaders are worried only about their own future and work as yes man of their political masters, to the detriment of the larger interests of the tribal society.

2.Role of Tribal Officials and Employees
Tribals living in Rajasthanas Adivasi Upyojana Area have very low representation in government administration in comparison to non-tribals. They have little representation in Rajasthan administrative services. For instance, out of 600 recruitments so far done for tribals in state RAS and RTS, only 15athat is 2.5 percent were recruited from southern Rajasthan, and only 3 tribals have made it to Rajasthan administrative services. The tribals of this region have never made it to the Indian Administrative Services even after 59 years of Independence. In other words, there are only a handful of tribal officials and employees from this region. And most among these work under pressure and fear, and they never participate in various activities conducted for the prevention of excesses and exploitation perpetrated on tribal society. Keeping in mind that they have raise their children, they think they would work for their community after they retire from job. This is how the tribal officials and employees have failed in discharging their duty toward their society. But when they smell an opportunity to become MLA and MP, they are seen running around for tickets, in other words, they want to become politicians but not social workers.
These officials and employees have little interaction with their community members. Most of them have become city dwellers, and they never encourage their children to participate in social and religious activities of their community. In other words, they fail to discharge their responsibility toward their community. The tribal officials and employees posted in this area have to face immense pressure from their political masters and have to work under fear as they are transferred by the politicians to serve their party interests and personal ambitions. This fear keeps them from participating in social development activities. They are thus unable to bring awareness among their fellow tribesmen and set an example before the youth. They only bid their time while waiting to complete their service period. But when they retire it is too late as they are unable to contribute anything substantial toward their community.

3.Role of Tribal Youth
Owing to their poor economic condition, most of the tribals send their children to government schools and hostel. Needless to say the government educational institutions are ill-equipped to provide quality education to their wards. For instance, they donat have qualified teachers in enough numbers, lack well-equipped science labs particularly in rural areas, have no playing grounds, libraries and reading rooms, lack furniture and classrooms. To top it all, students have to face caste discrimination in these institutions that reflects on the results of practical examinations of tribal students. Aware of all these pitfalls of government schools, when the poor tribal families try to get their children good education through missionary schools, some fanatic elements who have a sway upon the larger society dub this act as proselytization and create social and political pressure to deprive their children of education, although this is unconstitutional. How many tribal politicians, officials and social workers have turned their attention toward such occurrences? How many of them have ever bothered to visit the schools and hostels set up in rural tribal areas and tried to do something about the various problems that tribal students face their? How many students have they ever bothered to help and guide? But people venturing into this kind of endeavour are few, and such efforts still few and far between. Even those poor tribal students who try to overcome all difficulties in their studies focus only on getting a government job, and most of the time their efforts go in vain.
4.Role of the Common Tribal
Generally, it can be observed that ordinary tribalas socio-economic condition is so pathetic that all his concerns and efforts focus on making both ends meet, so much so that he is unable to think of his own development let alone making any effort toward resolving the problems the community is beset with. He simply gives up, and hopes that some leader, some official or holy man will descend and deliver us from our pathetic socio-economic condition. The ordinary tribal has left his fate in the hands of government and God. If somebody perpetrates excesses on them and exploits them, they simply bow down before them. If any tribal youth or leader dare raise his voice against such excesses and exploitation, the ordinary tribals fail to throw their weight behind him, as they are in awe of the socio-economic status of the perpetrator. . And if some youth goes to jail for fighting for the dignity of the tribal community or dies for the cause of the tribals, he becomes a part of statistics as his fellow tribesmen, taking such event as something too ordinary to be remembered, forget such sacrifices after a few days. This is one of the biggest faults that lie with the tribal community itself. The Adivasi Upyojana Kshetra is predominantly tribal, peopleas representatives are tribals and there are about 1500 NGO which claim to be working for tribal cause, yet the tribals have to suffer excesses and exploitation even after 59 years of Independence.

Suggestions
The above analysis draws the attention toward important deficiencies of the tribal community which can be removed by the following suggestions:
1.Tribal politicians, officials and employees may have taken advantage of reservations to improve the socio-economic status of their families. But most of them seldom discharge their duty toward the less fortunate fellow tribesmen. Such individuals should be entrusted with special responsibility of contributing toward the socio-economic development of their fellowmen living in poor rural tribal areas. They should be involved especially in educational, health and awareness programmes. And if they donat fulfill their duty toward the community, they should not be allowed to enjoy the benefits of reservation.
2.Owing to limited resources, the implementation of various schemes designed by the government for the uplift of tribals is an uphill task. As a result of this, the tribals dwelling in poor rural areas are deprived of quality education and health care, thus keeping the tribals backward compared to non-tribals. Various government and non-government studies show that various government schemes meant for the socio-economic development of tribals have failed to reach the intended beneficiaries for lack of adequate staff and resources. The government has now taken an initiative to implement such schemes by involving non-government agencies. But no positive results have emerged from such initiatives. We all know that the missionaries have played a crucial role in providing quality education and health care to the rural poor. It is evident from the socio-economic condition of the tribals of the Northeast, including Assam, Nagaland, Meghalya, Tripura, Manipur, etc., and Jharkhand, which is much better than that of other tribals. The tribals of these areas are contributing their might in a significant way in many countries. It would be advisable to handover tribal development programmes in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh to the missionaries, so that the tribal communities of these states also become aware of their human rights and become an equal partners in the socio-economic development along with non-tribals. The no tribal will ever oppose the theory of merit. I also feel that till there is reservation available to them, there abilities will be questioned by the larger society as those who have availed themselves off the benefit of reservation have contributed little significant to the society and the country. It is therefore necessary to make those who are enjoying the fruits of reservation (1) to serve at least for the first five years, after they get a government job, serve in tribal areas and contribute to the welfare and development of the community, (2) adopt a tribal child to raise and educate him and (3) contribute a certain percentage of his earning to development work in tribal areas, such as digging of wells, construction of schools and community centres so that it helps the ordinary tribals lead a life of dignity. And they can say with pride, when time comes, that they are discharging their duty toward their community in return for the benefits of reservation that the government has provided them.
3.Party politics has pushed the tribal panchayats to the brink of ruin. The traditional tribal panchayats have historically played a crucial role in tribal society. It is therefore necessary to revive and strengthen them, as in their absence it would be difficult for the tribal community to reclaim its pride and rightful place in the society. It is apparent from experience that party politics is not going to resolve the problems that the tribal community is besieged with because had the decisions inspired by party politics been beneficial, the tribals would have never been living in pathetic condition even after 59 years of Independence. If any tribal receives lathis in the movements and rallies, held for tribal dignity and resolution of tribal societyas socio-economic problems, is jailed and takes bullets, such person should be revered by the community. We should raise monuments in the honour of such martyrs of the tribal cause, so that they become a role model and source of inspiration, as is the practice in Jharkhand.
The community panchayats can also promote community participation in rural development work, so that we donat have to depend on government alone for our socio-economic development. Every villager should be encouraged to contribute to mobilize resources and remove various deficiencies besetting development work. Villagers should also be encouraged to set up self-help groups so that a positive change is harnessed in their economic condition.
4.The tribal community is depicted in a wrong light in many films, papers and magazines. So it is pertinent for us to expose such tribals and non-tribals, organizations and groups, who are hurting the tribal interests and defaming the community, and give them a befitting reply. Many fundamentalist organizations are working overtime to create a deep wedge in tribal community, making tribals their own enemies. If such dangerous tendency is not checked, the time is not too far when we will have strife on our hands in which tribals will kill taibals.

We can on the basis of above say that it will be erroneous to hold non-tribals solely responsible for the backwardness of the tribals of southern Rajasthan. If the tribal community has to suffer excesses and exploitation, and has remained a laggard in development, then tribal politicians, official, employees are as much to be blamed for this sorry state of affairs. It is because these people have use their tribal identity to reap the benefits by becoming politician (MPs, MLAs, district board chairmen, pradhans), government officials and employees. But when it comes to discharging their duty toward their own community they have largely failed. Tribal society will have to suffer excesses and exploitation till every tribal fight for his rights and discharges his duty toward the community.
Although the government time and again claims to have spent crores of rupees on the development of southern Rajasthan, the reality on the ground is opposite, as there has been too little development to support such claims. This has led to growing socio-economic and political dissent among tribals of this area. Keeping in view this discontent, some individuals have taken laudable initiative. The foremost among them is Satguru Shri Mohanji Sharma who has been working for the socio-economic uplift of the tribals of southern Rajasthan for the past 15 years. He is guiding the tribal students by spreading awareness among them to help them learn to live with dignity. He is, in fact, in his own way uniting the tribals of this area. There are some politicians who rising above their party lines and ideologies are contributing a lot to the development of tribals. Prominent among them are Tribal Minister Nand Lal Meena, MP Mahaveer Bhagora, Former MP Mahendrajeet Malavia and Tara Chand Bhagora, MLAs Jeetmal Khont and Raghuveer Meena. There efforts are worth a thousand plaudits.
The dissention widespread among the tribals of this area is now leading to a demand for a separate tribal state, which is being raised by some tribal youth. Supporting this demand are thousands of educated tribal youth and victims of excesses and exploitation. Those tribal politicians who were used and then dumped by their political parties are also throwing their weight behind this movement. It also appears that the non-tribal people of the area who are trying to bring the tribals in the mainstream of development are also supporting this demand, directly or indirectly. All this portends well.

I have been married a short time and it seems to me like sex and intimacy are completely non-existant for me and my husband and I dont know how to fix it. The reasons behind it may vary and may not be a I think. Its easy to say just seduce your husband or get over it but its not quite so easily done. The circumstances are........before I was with my husband I was completely innocent, I'd never been sexually involved with anyone. My husband and I were sexually active before we married. He had vast experience and is older than me and for a number of years had been using internet sex, porn, random sex as a release but saw it as nothing more than sex.......I believe for my husband there is not an emotional connection during sex because for so long sex has just been about busting a nut. I dont believe he can differentiate between loving sex and sex for sex's sake. He has mentioned before there's some things you just dont do with your wife which I think is rubbish if there's anyone you should be doing it with it's your wife!!. As a married woman theres so many things I haven't experienced that I wish I had, so many times I wish I could just say *&!% it and take the initiative but I dont. I have never spent a day in bed with my husband or woke up naked with him or been kissed properly for no reason or had any type of romance. By romance I dont mean things or flowers or any of that stuff because things like that dont fuss me terribly but it'd be nice to be complimented or feel loved or get suprised anything really....it doesn't happen. I believe I am to blame as well when we met I hadn't been with anyone and had no experience, that does not mean I am a prude, I am open to just about anything but I think because of my history he just doesn't bring anything up, I was initially shy just because it was a new situation for me and maybe that shyness turned him off me. We also have a small child who requires a lot of attention and care often I'm tired although I always make an effort to spend at least some time with my husband every day, but I dont think he see's me past the diapers and milk and crying :-). Sex and intimacy has been lacking in our relationship for so long now that it almost feels useless bringing it up and I miss it I really do. I dont know how to change things around because to be honest I have no experience of anything like this. I dont know if my husband just isn't attracted to me or is out of love with me. Something I keep thinking is when our relationship began my husband done some dishonest things that we have since worked through............it did hurt me a lot though and shattered my confidence, I believe he feels guilty for treating me like that and as a result stays with me through guilt and obligation because he is a good person and doesn't like to see people wronged, he knows how hurt I was and how much I love him and I believe he just doesn't want to hurt me and now we have our daughter he wants to be there for her and be a father, I just dont feel that any of these reasons are enough to stay in a loveless, sexless marriage. I dont know that things can be changed but I took my vows seriously and I love my husband so I would like to try before it gets too late............where do I start?? any ideas?? I have spoken to him about the intimacy and he always says he loves me and our family but things remain the same. I just want a normal healthy relationship, I love my husband and want to be intimate with him.....at some point every day I want to be close to my husband, I want to fall asleep in his arms (preferably after sex!), I want to wake up next to him, I want to kiss him and have a great sex life........but we dont............advice?
sunshine- while I hardly think 2 questions constitutes every other day I do see the point about denial but I did take my vows seriously and it is difficult to make decisions on something so important sometimes different opinions help and I do take all of them onboard.

I've been talking to a guy for a little while now. We've "met" each other at last.fm and might actually meet at some concerts.

Well I've been starting to like this guy. Not sure if he likes me, though I think he does since he's the one who's taking the initiative? :P

My friend said I should go for it. I'm more skeptic when it comes to meeting strangers... How do these kind of relationships go?

I was trying to free up some space on my inspiron 6000 so I unistalled a few programs that had not been used in a very long time... Now when I restart my computer it tells me that new hardware has been found and to insert the disk to install... I have tried all of the disks I have from Dell and nothing is working. Under device manager there is a yellow question mark next to Video controller (vga compatible). I have tried several different drivers that I thought would work. Any suggestions???

I see that alot of people are going into the depths of the internet and back looking to investigate President Obama. If you really want something to do, please investigate the Skull & Bones organization that Bush and his father belongs to. Its not hard. It was just on the History Channel last night. I have read about it already, and its scary to think Idiot Bush and his lying daddy thought they could with the help of other members take over the entire world with a one world order agenda. (Check the progress of Biush's initiative to get the US dollar to be replaced with the Amero like the Euro). People just don't seem to care about the important stuff that matters.
Its sad to see that there are aduLts walking around the USA that thinks that the Skull & Bones are simply a fraternity...

Ok...I met this 30 year old female on myspace. We went out and had a few drinks. For the next week, we started hanging out and started having real nice conversations. She asked me why am I single and I told her because it's hard to find good honest decent people. And she agreed with me. I told her I like it when people are open and honest with me...and she told me that she's a open and honest person. So for the next couple of days, her and I started talking on the phone and on yahoo. Until one day, all of that came to an end. One day, she hit me up on yahoo and told me that she had an concussion and couldn't remember anything that her and I did. So for the next few days, she stopped calling me and stopped talking to me on yahoo. Everything I would hit her up on yahoo, she would always get this nonchalant attitude and acted like she didn't want to talk to me. She wasn't like this before her and I started talking. I asked her when could I see her again and she told me she's been busy with work and school...and she told me she hasn't forgot about me. She's in the Army. She's still on my yahoo messenger list, but she won't talk to me. Every time I take the initiative and hit her up, she only gives me one or two short word answers. Should I ask her what's wrong, or should I just leave it alone and walk away. I don't feel like I should ask her what's wrong because if she wants me to know, she would tell me. What should I do?

I was raised in NY up until I was 7 years old, so I didn't spend a whole lot of time there. But my boyfriend said he was surprising me with a trip there. He only told me because he wanted me to reserve that weekend.

I thought it was a sweet gesture and am really excited. Today, however, he asks ME what we're doing in NY, simply because I spent some time there. I assumed that because he was surprising me with the trip, that he was at aleast planning some of it. I still don't know what we're doing for hotel or what, if he even planned that part out.

I don't know why...but I'm really mad. He never really plans anything else we do, I always have to suggest things and then he goes. I thought for once he had taken the initiative to plan everything for this weekend trip. Just because I spent a couple of years in NY, doesn't mean I know my way around the city anymore than he does.

What do I do? I really want him to at least search the internet (it's not that hard) for things to do. I already make a joke about how this was his trip and his response was "It's your turf. Would you want me to come to Argentina and plan stuff?" I'm from Argentina. I responded that NYC was not the same as a foreign country. He hasn't responded back.

Am I wrong for feeling this way?

We're in our late 20s and have been dating for about 3 years.

My main view of society is that there are two kinds of people.

People A: are able to use logic, control their emotions easily on their own, and take initiative.

People B: lack logic (or have none at all), can't control their emotions on their own, and rarely take initiative.

There are other ways to categorize people, but that's just what I believe is easiest way to think about it. It seems that people B make up most of the world. In my opinion, people b can be described as someone who listens, does as they're told, don't question, believes what they're told, has a religion, do things because they're told by society that its right. People A in my opinion choose to only do the things that are right, or make most sense. They question and make sure that what they are doing logically makes sense. They do not have a religion. They do unique things to make their selves happy, and are more original. A perfect every day example is your boss or manager at work. People B probably described your boss/manager pretty well... they make you work and expect you not to ask why, they talk as if they only know what they're doing, and not why. It seems to me that, its actually set up like this on purpose. Think about it, as a boss... you don't have the time to explain every thing in detail to your workers under you, so you just want someone who will listen and do as their told, so things get done. It makes sense.

So me being person A I can say that I don't get along with people like people B at all. Its not that I choose not to like them, I just can't make sense of their actions and thoughts, because there is no reasoning behind any of it. I don't feel like there is a place for me in society because of the way I think and handle situations differently from everyone else. I only have a few friends who are like people A, and I notice more people like "A" around town and on the internet. Maybe theres some kind of conspiracy about it... "the governments behind it!" kind thing. I don't know.

Has anyone else thought about this?
Only rational reasonable and mature responses please.

i got given a usb modem free from school
it was part of a government initiative
the usb wants me to put my simcard in
& just before i put it in i wanted to know
if once the usb is bought, does it charge to use the internet?

She treats me like a piece of garbage even though I pay half of the rent and for all of the electricity, nevermind the free internet I gave them for years until I recently smashed the wireless modem with a hammer. She gets up promptly at 9 am and procedes to plop their 7 month old baby in her baby...chair..thing, directly in front of the tv while she sleeps on the couch until around noon. Meanwhile the puppy that she just HAD to have runs around the house peeing and pooping everywhere because she never takes it outside. She has completely ruined all of my pots and pans from using metal utensils on them (their nonstick) even after I suggested several times that she should use my assortment of plastic spatulas conveniently placed next to the stove. She washes clothes and leaves them in the washer for days...same thing with the dryer. Smoked pot through her whole pregnancy. She's 20 and has no drivers license or job, and no initiative to get either, even though her boyfriend (my roommate) has bought her two (thats right TWO) cars. The sink is always filled with dirty dishes (none of which are mine as I gave up cooking long ago to avoid being around her as much as possible) And as a final insult to me, she takes the access card out of the satellite receiver every time they leave so I can't watch tv...ya know...the tv that I provide the electricity to. (no he doesnt pay for the sattelite hookup, he brought his receiver from his mommys house since there was already a dish here)

MDMA can kill people but is no where as lethal as tobacco or even driving for that matter. Drugs do have the ability to be abused, but you can become addicted to masturbation and penises (and hands for that matter) aren't illegal. How can humans decide the legality of natural growing plants that occur in nature? Cannabis is one of the most useful plants in the world (aside from it's mentally soothing abilities) yet it is ILLEGAL (even HEMP in the US)? Drugs are, above all, a tool in it's truest form. They can help you with many aspects of your life and help reveal insights wiser than you may have thought possible.

Drugs aren't for eluding reality or making it seem nicer, although your nice doctor may recommend some nice medication that may make your otherwise dreary life a little better (Prozac) they can easily be used to help solve problems in your life. Feeling disconnected from people, take some MDMA and rekindle the fire of humanity within your heart. Feel like you have no direction? Take some psilocybin mushrooms and let your spirituality take it's truest form--yet these drugs are illegal.

Alcohol, tobacco and prescription drugs directly account for the overwhelming majority of drug related deaths. I have never heard of anyone dying from taking mushrooms and nobody has ever heard (ever) o f anybody dying from marijuanna use at ANY dose whatsoever. Yet again, which drugs are illegal and which aren't?

Everyday humans delve deeper into the mind and begin to unwind it's workings. We can even roughly map the functions of the brain thanks to 21st century technology. Though we are far from ultimately understanding the brain and it's reaction to drugs (which we may never fully understand) we are getting better estimates. Yet the drug laws that are in effect today were made decades ago, why have they not been either revoked or reviewed?

It seems that the only plausible answer is that the government doesn't want people opening their minds and expanding their world viewpoint. The system is a finely tuned machine and without full cooperation from the masses it will not churn out commerce. I do not believe in the illuminati, or 2012, or the boogeyman but I do believe in social manipulation. If not to keep people in line then why are they denied the means to discover themselves in an all new fashion and retransform their lives? If it had not been for certain drugs you would definitely and irrefutably not find me trying to enlighten the people at an absurd hour. I have had limited exposure to psychedelics but they have changed my very being profoundly in a VERY positive way.

Now I'm not saying to go and try all these new drugs because some mystical man on the internet told you to because that is ridiculous. I am merely wondering why drugs are still illegal in today's society and why nobody is taking the initiative to free the people .

If, however, I have ignited an interest in you START READING. Erowid.org is an invaluable tool. Like the great Alexander Shulgin said "be educated then decide". Drugs have the potential to help you in every dimension but they are also dangerous in the hands of an ignorant person. Be responsible.
Drugs make people stupid? Why are you assuming everybody would rather be high than operating on a normal thought pattern? Drugs will still cost money--why can people now afford to do drugs all the time? Please--no more of these ignorant answers.
No ma'am, I live in Alberta. And as for the Paper Company that is such a great allegory for life and western society: The repercussions of a particular person's greed still is felt today, many years later. Makes you wonder what actions are being made now that are going to have to be dealt with in 10, 20, 30 or even 100 years in the future. Maybe if William Randolph Hearst had taken some psilocybin mushrooms he would have made his decisions for the betterment of mankind and the course of history would have been radically changed in a positive way. Maybe we could have abolished poverty by now and clothed every human in durable hemp clothing? Regardless, the point is not to bask in the past but to work for the future...

Alright, well I made the mistake of having an affair with a friends girlfriend and of course it backfired and he of course found out I liked her and hates me and we don't talk anymore. Anyways, she lied to him and told him that I'd make up the story of sleeping with her in order for him not to break up with her etc etc. Well, during our affair, I obtained plenty of evidence to prove that we did, in fact, have sex. One of which is a naked picture of her. She took the picture herself its obvious in the pic, and sent it to me from her phone while I was sitting right next to her. After a couple months of her being a total bitch and blaming everything on me so people don't hate her, I'm getting tired of her not taking responsibility for her own actions. So I showed a couple mutual friends of the boyfriend and they took the initiative to tell him that something went on, that it wasn't just me. Now because of me having shown a couple people, she's claiming that she can sue me even though I haven't posted the pic on the internet ANYWHERE or anything of the sort.

My question: Does she really have the ability to sue me for said picture?

It a question in my homework. Here is the article you need to read first and the question is below,

Privacy eroding, bit by byte

Computers, Engineers Find New Ways to Keep Tabs On Us

First there were security cameras, sprouting like mushrooms on street corners and buildings. Then came shopper cards, offering discounts in exchange for details about buying habits.

In recent years, we've seen the emergence of electronic tags or "cookies" on the Internet, software that monitors e-mail, GPS devices that pinpoint our position on the planet, and a growing number of machines that capture fingerprints and face prints.

Now comes the news that federal regulators approved the injection of microchips under the skin, enabling physicians with the right gear to know who someone is without having to ask. And yesterday, the omniscient-seeming search engine Google bested itself by announcing a service to probe for information both online and in your own machine. One company official called it a "photographic memory for your computer."

Google says no personal information will be sent back to the company. But if it feels like you can't do anything these days without someone looking over your shoulder, you're not just paranoid. Cheap computers, blazing fast networks and clever engineers are finding more and more ways to keep tabs on where you go and what you buy, generally with your permission. They're even getting better at guessing what you'll do next.

"It's this whole new world. It's sort of like all these little details about our lives are being recorded," said Richard M. Smith, an Internet security consultant in Boston. "We love the conveniences. We love the services. But people kind of instinctively know there's a dark side to this. They just hope it won't happen to them."

Smaller, Faster and Cheaper

To be sure, companies have long gathered personal and shopping information to better market to customers, often with dubious results. Who hasn't received junk mail or telemarketing calls that seem to have no connection with their lives? But those initiatives are fast improving' and accelerating as people live more of their lives tethered to cell phones, the Internet and the rest of the wired world, where trading off personal information is part of the price of admission.

Think about a typical day. An advertising service is notified when you check the sports scores on the Web. The EZ-Pass transponder signals when you go through a tollbooth. The pharmacy collects personal medication details and sends them along to data companies for analysis. At work, some employees now use face recognition systems to get in to their offices, or they type on machines that trace every keystroke.

"Every move you make is becoming part of your permanent record," said Peter P. Swire, a privacy expert and law professor at Ohio State University. "The trend is smaller, faster, cheaper."

Rapid Accumulation

There's no question the data are accumulating, and faster than many people understand. A few years ago, researchers at the University of California at Berkeley estimated that all the information created by humanity by 1999 would double by about now. One of the leading aggregators of personal information, an Arkansas company called Acxiom Corp., has roughly a million times more information about adult Americans and their families than when it first sold stock two decades ago.

Other commercial information services routinely tout their ability to access some 20 billion records. And that's not counting the digital details that come in the form of photographs, videotapes and sensor readings. Most people know companies can mine credit card data, loan records and other transactions. But few know that companies already offer video-mining services as well. One day we might be able to mine the information generated by radio frequency identification chip implanted in our arms. Or we might just use a Google search service custom-made for RFID, as the chips are known.

Not everybody is vexed by these trends. Homeland security, law enforcement and intelligence officials are rushing to take advantage of this wealth of information to protect the country. Web sites like Amazon.com, cell phone services, catalogue retailers, financial services companies and many others are increasingly adept at using data systems to serve customers. Ask people whether they'd give up those services, and many would offer a resounding "no."

David Brin, an author and futurist, believes that recent technological developments have revolutionized the ability of people to see, through cameras around the globe, and remember details through almost unimaginably rich warehouses of information that serve as proxies for our limited memories.

He predicts that we will one day be able to "know" almost everybody in the world through instant access to personal information in ubiquitous dat

Met a guy 5 years ago over the internet. He recently moved to my city and we have been hanging out a lot together. He gives mixed signals. Would stay at my place till 3 am over the weekend just to chill but would mention he would rather hit on my sis who is 2 years older than me... the touching, long chats, smiles.. all are there

I am just damn confused. At this point I only want to know if he's into it or not. He would hang out with me if I would call.. but rarely makes an initiative.. tho I know he is really busy.

any help would do.. thanks

I apologize for the lengthy question but if you're up to reading it then I'd appriciate any advice.

I've been dating this girl for approximately 5 months. They usually consist of weekend trips. It is a long distance relationship as we met online. It's approximately a 3 hour drive to and from her house. I've made about 8 trips there and she's made 1 trip here thus far but that is mostly because she's just graduating college and cannot afford to make that many trips. Plus, being at her "place" gives her a bit more security than it would be traveling to mine so I accommodated her for that reason. As note she's in her mid 20's and I'm in my late 20's.

A little bit about her:

She's a virgin and she's not the type of girl who's very in touch with her feelings. In fact I'd say she's pretty apathetic towards mostly everything (most likely a defensive mechanism) and it's very difficult at times for me to determine how interested she is in this relationship. She does not reciprocate the "love" nearly as much as I do. Usually if I say "I miss you" she'll say it back. Never takes the initiative in such things. She told me from the get-go that I was her first serious relationship of any kind that went beyond "1st base". She's the type of girl who's very self-conscious and I might be the first guy who's had a really serious interest in her or the first she's allowed past the huge walls she's put up over the years.

One thing that bothers me is that she tends to cry when we mess around sexually which either makes me think she doesn't want it or she's just not ready for it. She wants me to be her first but when it comes right down to it she's so afraid that she cries excessively and makes it very difficult.

She seems to like to keep her "distance" meaning trying NOT to commit to the relationship in any way or making herself "vulnerable". She said she loved me and honestly think she regretted even saying it after-wards, not because she doesn't necessarily doesn't love me (hard to say) but because I think it makes her feel vulnerable. I've said it since to her and she hesitates greatly before repeating it back to me again, almost as if she made a mistake the first time. There have been situations where she's said "you'll get bored of me!" and more than one occasion where she's broken up into tears over the phone because I was trying to communicate my discontent with her nonreciprocal attitude and her "distance" even though we have something I think could be very special. I honestly think she's under the constant assumption that the relationship will NOT last because eventually I'm going to find a better girl. Truth is I adore her but the problem is it's her own inhibition and fear that's keeping the relationship from really being great. I've told her numerous times how beautiful/smart/funny she is but she rarely compliments me. I'm a decent looking guy but she tends to shoot me down as much as possible...could this potentially be because of her own insecurities? She's said such things as "you could learn alot from these boys" when we were in a park for instance. I asked what she meant by that but she didn't respond. Could have been because I was coming on too strongly for her? I don't know.

I try my best to be as positive as possible with her by telling her she's beautiful/smart/funny/etc.. (which I Truely believe even if she doesn't) but at times her general low self esteem ends up frustrating me greatly and I can say things that I sometimes regret. Such as criticizing her for not reciprocating or communicating with me. Just FYI she plays computer games for hours and hours on end (MMORPG) and I've told her time and again that it's not healthy to do this and I know from personal experience that it's a way of hiding away depression. The game forces people to put real life on the back burner and "hide" away in a fantasy world where you can be anyone you wish to be. It's pretty scary.

This is a relationship that I Truely want to work but it's long distance right now (we see each other 2-3 weekends a month) and I'm honestly at my wits end with this. I'm really not sure if she's EVER going to change or get our of her place where she things she's not worth the effort. I'm a much more open person than she is and I enjoy the good things that come with a relationship and I'm not sure if she'll ever turn this around.

The only thing I can do with her is try to be positive as possible and compliment her at every turn and hope that someday she gets self-confidence in herself. I'm not sure if that will ever happen and I'm not sure if investing god knows how long waiting for it.

Just note that I would like to make this relationship work. I think she's a great girl except for the one big thing and I'm trying my best to figure out how to handle it.

Any advice is appriciated, how would you handle this situation?

i had psychological problems in the past, but now I'm way too better.
in the beginning, my family really restricted me from doing anything, like i need to leave my room door to be open, my internet activity will be monitored all the time, and wouldn't be able to have the internet connection in weekends, and couldn't cry, couldn't watch a movie (something related to suicide, self harm).
it was okay that they restricted me in the past, but now I'm still being restricted, and still have to go through all of this? i couldn't even cry for anything, because the moment i start crying, they would ask me to sit outside for about an hour, and just ask me to watch TV.
i feel completely normal, but the way I am being restricted ,makes me go crazy, as if I am still sick, and i need to be watched all the time. all this that they are doing makes me think of getting back there, but its just thought you know, I'm not gonna get back.i know that they don't want me to repeat it again so they take initiative steps, but don't you think this is crossing the limit?
what should i do to not go through all this? there's no freedom for me?

I'm 20 years and about once a month I'm prone to give my boyfriend so-called silent treatments this can go on for a couple of hours to a couple of days. He's always taken the initiative to snap me out of it, sometimes with a half-hearted effort on my part. We try to talk about it afterwards but it always happen again and up to this point I havent been able to explain why.

Then I read an internet article that said that silent treatment is a form of abuse, to gain power and control and this made me really anxious. I dont think Ive realized before now what I was doing to him and why - I used to treat my parents much the same way, only they rarely showed that they cared. Plus they're Asian, so my way of not talking was a way of "talking back" when you're not allowed to argue with your elders (that's not an excuse, by the way, I'm trying to explain).

Please don't flame. I love my boyfriend of all my heart, we've been together almost 2 years, and I want to change.

d was wondering if you have any tips for what I could to do, because it seems I'm resorting to the treatment pretty frequently, and I can't find any sites that has info for the abuser and not the victim :(

I have to write a paper for my government class and I don't even know where to start. The topic is:

Use the Internet to find information on a bill, initiative, referendum, or recall from the last 10 years that affected public policy in one of the states in the United States. Write a summary of the law or the case against the elected public official and the result of the proceeding.
NOTE: Your summary should be a MINIMUM of five paragraphs.

Thanks anyone in advance for any help. I only have seven days to finish my classes or I don't graduate and I am down to the wire.

The political background against which the 2008 US Elections took place was hardly a predictable one. (R)Senator John McCain of Arizona, a decorated war veteran and proven leader ran against the relatively unknown (D) Senator Barack Obama of Illinois.

One major difference separated these two men: Barack Obamaas charisma and political savvy. Senator John McCain certainly fit the bill to be appointed to the highest office in the world, but he lacked the flair and flamboyance of Senator Barack Obama.

While Obama was able to rattle off the right words as effortlessly as greased lightning, McCain would fumble and stutter a not through his inability for structured thought and strategic leadership, but rather through his incompetence as a public speaker.

Obama wooed voters with his dynamic approach. He made use of the internet, public funds and a huge disillusioned base of Bush-era fatigued voters. The failed war in Iraq a often cited as the legacy of the Bush Presidency, was usurped by the Obama administration for all its worth.

Voters needed a scapegoat and all Bush-era doctrine and foreign policy bore the brunt. It was a case of old-school Republican failures vs. an era of Democratic liberalism and inflated government. Obama promised a rapid de-escalation of the Iraq war effort, a focus on education and clean energy, affordable health care, special attention on minority rights and a total break from the past.

McCain was blindsided by his own campaign. They painted him as the humble, decorated war hero of yesteryear. McCain has been toted as a self-made man, a leader of men and a qualified candidate for the worldas highest office. But McCain failed to offer what it was that the Obama campaign was so successfully promoting a Change.
Americans had long grown tired and distrustful of a war effort that was based on false assumptions. There were no WMD in Iraq. It appeared to the public as if Bush and Cheney were pursuing a personal agenda of the old-school Republican think tank: attack Iraq, destroy its infrastructure and seek to impose democratic governance through unilateral initiatives. Bush was a man of action, not scared to act alone when the world dragged its feet. This proved fatal at some points, especially when Americaas actions were deemed illegal and expansionist by parties in the region.

Bush acted on his threats and he cautioned the world against the rising threat of Islamic militancy. The EU and other allies of the United States were war weary and they were reluctant to commit themselves to an unpopular military campaign with no end in sight. Britain, a longtime friend of the United States, withdrew its forces followed by other countries. Owing to global protests against the war efforts, rising costs in civilian and military casualties and the enormous financial burden entailed, the war rhetoric was losing support at a geometric rate.

Against this backdrop of declining support for President Bush a all-time low approval ratings ensued a Barack Obama ascended the ranks of the Democrat Party. He brushed passed Hillary Clinton who ultimately had nothing but praise for the new candidate. Obamania had gripped the world. Barack Obama was simply unstoppable. He spoke of change, of Main Street and not Wall Street, he championed the little man and not the corporate, he spoke effortlessly and plainly of the challenges that Americans face on a daily basis.

Then the Achilles Heel of the Republican campaign struck. The Global Crisis of late 2008. Within a short period of time the housing crisis, mortgages banks, sub-prime lending rates, credit crunch and international insurers and financial/investment houses hit the headlines. It wasnat good news that was awaiting the world. Massive and widespread layoffs and unemployment ensued; corporate bankruptcies by the dozen, home foreclosures, credit drying up and a crisis of unimaginable proportions gripped the global market. Fear and panic swept like a raging wildfire through the hearts of Americans as first their jobs, then their homes and their familiesa livelihoods were at stake.

Obama was elected to the highest office. McCain was relegated to the annals of history as the man who challenged, but was ultimately defeated by President Obama. This was the coup de grace of the Obama camp. McCain and his old school Republican friends were seen as the enemy by the American people. Bush and anyone associated with him was a symbol of failure, of unilateralism, of deceit. The Republicans were seen as pro-corporate and against the average working-class American. Obama promised tax-cuts to 95% of Americans, according to his perception of income brackets. McCain could only cling to Obamaas coattails and offer the American public that he would work alongside Obama in the new presidency.

Obama seized on this crisis and presented what appeared like a workable plan to the American people. This came in the form of a massive and unprecedented bailout. Hundre

It can be a popular movement, project or program (national, state or local level), a work of popular culture (music, film, visual art, work of fiction, etc.), an internet initiative, or a religious practice or paper.

There must be enough info. about it so I can:
-describe the cultural phenomenon
- Relate it to ethical categories and to various religious cultures or secular movements (deep ecology, ecofeminism for ex.)
-assess its effectiveness, perhaps suggesting revisions which would serve to enhance its effectiveness
SPECIFICS please, for ex., veganism is vague

LONDON : More than 100,000 Britons have recently downloaded "certificates of de-baptism" from the internet to renounce their Christian faith.
The initiative launched by a group called the National Secular Society (NSS) follows atheist campaigns here and elsewhere, including a London bus poster which triggered protests by proclaiming a?There's probably no God.' "We now produce a certificate on parchment and we have sold 1,500 units at $4.35 a pop," said National Secular Society president Terry Sanderson, 58.

John Hunt, 58, from London is one of the first to try to be "de-baptised." The male nurse said he approached the Church of England to ask it to remove his name. "They said they had sought legal advice and that I should place an announcement in the London gazette," said Hunt. So that's what he did a his notice of renouncement was published in the Gazette in May 2008 and other Britons have followed suit.

De-baptism organisers say the initiative is a response to what they see as increasing stridency from churches. Government figures say 72% of the population list themselves as Christian.

I don't even watch mainstream television...
I watch CSPAN and get info from the internet mostly.

Obama was just the better option.
I meant to vote for him and it was a sober decision on my part.

I agreed with funding a green energy initiative, getting the troops out of Iraq and yes... I also wanted to vote for the black guy for a change.

McCain was too old, too much of a war-hawk and too much of a friend to George W. Bush.
And Sarah Palin was a radical "charismatic christian" who is anti-gay, connected to big oil and was only chosen as a tactic to garner Hillary's voters. The plan failed.

There was no trickery going on... and nobody needs to make any excuses for me.

Why can't Republicans just accept the loss and move forward?

Well, I made an initiative to ask a guy to the prom. This was on the internet, because I didn't see him at all. He never answered me, and I was wondering what possible situations can occur from this. I am going to see him today at school. Thanks in advance.

I've been watching the WWF-E for years, decades and over time I've seen many Superstars go from Wrestlers to Legends and a rare few from Legends to Icons. Whether it be because of Wrestling ability such as Ric Flair, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, or from the ability to connect with the fans and sell merchandise to put the company on the map, people such as Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior and John Cena. No one started off as an Icon or a Legend, they all had to work their way up from the bottom level of the wrestling company. With the right push and the proper presentation they were made into stars for one reason or another.

What I've found in the last couple of years however is a general, unearned disliking from the so called "fans" of the business is given to a Wrestler who has yet to even debut. A few months ago when ECW began it's Talent Initiative, it allowed new Wrestlers to join the roster and attempt to sculp themselves into the business, and hopefully some day carve themselves into the record books and the anals of wrestling history. People like Ricky Ortiz, Jack Swagger, DJ Gabriel, Evan Bourne and Tyson Kid and Kizarny have all come to the WWE in the hopes of further establishing themselves.

Yet, most of these people received harsh criticisms that were very undeserved after only one vignette or match. I would guess maybe 1/4th of the "real" Fan base had ever seen Kizarny wrestle before in FCW or any other Promotion. Yet, after 1 debut there was a wave of "he sucks" "he can't wrestle" comments plaguing the internet off of just 1 video package mind you. It didn't matter how well his match went, and for a debut match his bout against MVP was pretty good, there was a fierce judging against him which in turn more then likely had a hand in why he has yet to compete actively on tv.

The same goes for people like DJ Gabriel and Jack Swagger, both of whom are very skilled wrestler's the former having a background in WCW I believe. However DJ Gabriel was said to be a "Crappy wrestler" just because some didn't like his gimmick, which I thought was just fine. Some may call him a Disco Inferno rip but that's beside the point. Aside form a badly put together Finisher, he's a very skilled and talented wrestler who deserves more then what he's gotten from the real fans and not just the "Internet posers" that think they know it all. The same can be said about Jack Swagger, a fairly big athlete whose obviously got background in wrestling. Truthfully, Swagger is a larger version of Shelton Benjamin with less agility and more technical prowess. Yet once again after 1 match everyone went on and on about how he sucked. Even now as the ECW Champion they still simply refuse to acknowledge the fact that he's young, he's hungry and frankly he's simply better then most other older generation wrestler's. Tommy Dreamer has skill and he can still bring it in the ring, but he's got several disadvantages going against someone like Swagger. On a roster of 13 some Superstars, what would the "Fan" like Swagger to do? Defeat the same people over and over shading the same gimmick given to Vladimir Kozlov? Or give him a title run and allow the Superstar to push himself up on the ladder?

Frankly out of the entire new crop it seems that the only one actually supported in the least was Evan Bourne for his high flying prowess and charisma, he reminds me of Alex Shelley with his look and style.

I support Jack Swagger as the ECW Champion, I support DJ Gabriel as a future contender along with Ricky Ortiz, Kizarny, and if Tyson Kid changes his finisher as a Springboard Elbow drop is about 20 years too late for something of today's standards, i'll support him as well.

But what of the rest of the supposed "Fan base" Do you really believe you give a new Superstar a chance to succeed? Or do you simply judge him off of 1 video or his debut match? As I can recall most wrestler's have terrible debut matches so that isn't quite a just way to go about things.

Your thoughts?
You'll find that I put alot of thought into the questions I ask, hence their apparent length. As for the WWE's quality right now, it's gone up some since the debut of Christian on the ECW Brand and the Road to Wrestlemania had undoubtedly improved Raw's quality. Smackdown however, remains to be seen.
Also, I meant to imply John Cena's fame as a result of his ability to sell merchandise and appeal to the younger fan generation. In no way do I believe that Cena is anything close to a Legend or Icon in the wrestling business.

I'm going to be debating green energy and right now I have a lots of info on green energy from a multitute of websites,

now I need evidence AGAINST environmentalism/the green movement

-- saying global warming is NOT caused by man
-- saying global warming is NOT real
-- supporting coal/oil companies
-- etc.

Being a supporter of the Green movement I know of allot of sites such as wecansolveit.org and thisisreality.org

now I need sites that do the opposite.

help?
thanks!

Consider what a company does to acquire and retain new customers. If a company has established a corporate or organzational goal to establish and maintain customer focus, how might customer relationship strategies be established and executed? What role might the internet play in on organization's customer retention initiatives? How can the Internet contribute to enhancing customer satisfaction (and thereby influencing customer loyalty) for an organization that delievers the majority of its customer experience in an online environment?

(All names are changed to protect identity)
I am 24 and recently went back to college last fall. I am a serious student, and decided to move to off campus housing near my college so I can get more work done. I found a nice apartment with my own room in a convenient location, and I share a bathroom, kitchen, and living room with two other guys (John & Doug.) John is 20 and Doug is 29. Each of us has one utility in our name. I have the cable/Internet, John has the electric, Doug has the gas, and the landlord takes care of the water in our rent. My roommates and I also came up with a cleanup schedule to take care of who cleans up the bathroom/ As for the landlord, he is a very nice guy and only rents to studious students, and only lists available housing on the school's website. Because I am serious about school, I usually just do my work in my room most of the day.

Okay... That was the background info, now here's my problem:
My roommate, Doug is a direct cause of anxiety in my life. I do not know how to confront him, as he is much older, and I don't know where to start. First off, Doug simply does not study or do any schoolwork at all. Last semester he took four classes, got three C's, and failed the other. It was no surprise to me as he was watching TV all day (and night) in the living room. His TV watching was a direct cause for me losing sleep. In September, I was waking up at 7 every day, and by December, I was lucky if I got out of bed by 11 (fortunately I had afternoon classes.) The volume on the TV was much too loud, and for me to climb out of bed to ask him to turn it down, adds to my frustration. On weekends, I would sometimes go back to my parents' house to clean my clothes and get some errands done. When I left my apartment, Doug would be sprawled out on the couch watching TV, and when I came back, (hours later) he was in the same spot. Sometimes when my girlfriend visited, we would want to watch TV, but couldn't because Doug was always there. His TV addiction caused John to go to his mom's home for days on end. I couldn't do that because I have a desktop computer, and can't easily pack that up all the time. Plus my parents' home is under major renovation.

Doug always orders out for food, and when he does, he leaves his open containers and bags on the coffee table and piles even more trash on the kitchen counter. He overflows the garbage can when he does use it and almost never takes out the overfilled bag. In the event that he does do that, he just leaves it in the kitchen rather than taking it outside. Not only that, there are crumbs all near the couch from him, and menus are everywhere. Our dining table is full of clutter as well, and he has also managed to store his jacket there. He leaves empty containers in the cabinets and sometimes if he spills something, he doesn't clean it up unless I ask him what he spilt. I have ruined a few pairs of socks from stepping on jelly and ketchup and soda. When he left for winter break, he left the house in poor condition. The heat was on, the garbage was overflowing, there was a pizza box in the sink, and there were empty beer bottles on the counter. The odor was foul.

Speaking of beer, Doug started going to bars every weekend (and sometimes during the week.) He would come home drunk and drink my water. Sometimes he would vomit in the front yard and just let nature deal with it. He lost his license over the summer from excessive speeding tickets (according to what he told me) and so his excuse for going to bars was he was bored. I think that money (financial aide money) should be put to better use. He paid half of the gas bill last month and was 15 days late for the recent gas bill.

Doug not only drank all my water, he ate all of John's food. This has forced us to not use the kitchen to store our stuff. My bedroom is now cluttered with my stuff that should be in the kitchen. I also am forced to store my paper plates, plastic utensils, toilet paper, and paper towels in my room because he takes all of my and John's stuff, but has not once contributed to the shared items. I have even been forced to store my garbage in my room because I am tired of taking out the trash he should be taking out. So now I have to walk over his garbage to get to the fridge. Doug has essentially taken over the common rooms, leaving me and John to be confined to our rooms.

I am convinced that Doug is mentally unstable. He talks to himself all the time and screams at his mom on the phone. He's 29 and treats his mom like dirt. He constantly locks himself out of the house and he has even kicked down the door to his room twice because he forgot his keys. I am becoming concerned for my own personal safety because I think he is losing it. The other day, I took initiative and put the parental controls on the TV for 12AM to 6AM because I really need to wake up early. I forgot to tell him I was doing that because he wasn't around and I was having a problem back home I had to
handle. He found out and screamed at me. He said that I'm not the king of the house and told me to change it back. I did, but I find that to be a little wrong, seeing how he hasn't been paying the bills. Why should he enjoy my cable if he isn't paying for the gas? He told me that he needs the TV to calm him and help him go to sleep. I asked why he doesn't just get a TV in his room, and he says he doesn't do that. I said that this apartment is a study environment and that I did that because of the noise, but he said that any apartment is noisy and I have to just tolerate it or go to the library.

How do I deal with this loser? I have put up with these conditions for too long and I can't take it much longer. I shouldn't have to "tolerate" Doug. I signed the lease because I wanted a decent and quiet place to do my work. If I wanted to go to the library, then I wouldn't have moved here. Please help me.
